So, I'm married to a pastor with no church. Makes for an interesting conversation when people ask what your husband does for a living. It was definitely time for a much needed break. After 15 years in the ministry, we needed to take a breather and step back to reevaluate. Sometimes, the work doesn't seem worth it, and then there are times that we wonder anxiously where we will be next.
Of course saying that we are taking a breather seems like a misnomer....since we both work full-time, have kids involved in activities, and me in school. We have been searching for a church in which to serve as lay people. That has been much harder than we originally thought. The place we visited Sunday is promising...I'll keep you posted. We don't want people there to know that Steve is an ordained minister. Just the knowing makes people treat you and look at you differently. Then they start to wonder what's wrong with you that you would no longer be at a church like we did something or somehow "struck out". Maybe that's just the way we feel and we are imposing our own feelings onto them...I don't know. The Bible says in Ps. 91:1 that " The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty" and that's where I think we are right now...in His shadow. He knows what we need and who needs us (which, by the way is the most important thing to me) better than we ever could. So, there's a place for us......and right now it is right where we are.
